Position Summary

Supports the research goals of the Section of Inherited Metabolic Diseases in the Department of Pediatrics. Will perform biochemical lipid and protein analyses on tissues and cultured cells, maintenance on scientific instruments, record data in computer database programs. Animal husbandry, dissection, and analyses.

Must be proficient in database design using Microsoft Access, scientific charting software such as SigmaPlot, spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel.
Must have excellent communication and writing skills, and the ability to research topics through use of the library and on-line Internet search engines.

Preferred Experience:

Experience in a research setting.
Experience in analytical biochemical techniques, including the use of GC instrumentation.
Prior experience with mammalian tissue culture,biochemical enzyme assays using spectrophotometer, fluorometer, microfilter plate reader and radiochemical methodologies. Experience with molecular biology techniquest, including DNA cloning, PCR, Agarose gel electrophoresis, DNA genotyping, SDS-PAGE of proteins and Western blotting.

Experience with methods and instruments used for analytical chemistry including gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy and high-pressure liquid chromatography.
Experience and familiarity with mammalian tissue culture.
Experienced with enzyme assays and protein gel electrophoresis.
