Position Summary

DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH RESOURCES
The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is seeking a Director of Research Resources to manage its growing research infrastructure. The Director reports to the Vice Chancellor for Research and is a member of the Vice Chancellor’s senior leadership group with responsibility for five key research program areas: 1) fairly assigning laboratory research space to support the strategic plan and create effective research teams; 2) overseeing translational cores, including hiring and evaluation of core directors, budget oversight, marketing and prioritizing purchases of new technologies to keep UNMC faculty competitive; 3) UNMC and University of Nebraska-wide pilot grant programs, including campus and intercampus events to promote research collaborations; 4) recruitment of faculty and collaborators for faculty, answering questions and find finding potential research partners; and, 5) program evaluations, including Board of Regents designated Centers, Nebraska Research Initiative-funded core facilities or collaborative grant programs. As a member of the Safety Leadership Team, the Director of Research Resources is knowledgeable about with all relevant regulatory policies and ways to improve research safety and compliance .
Candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent (e.g., MD/PhD, PharmD) in a relevant biomedical science and at least 10 years experience in research or research administration. The Director should have experience working with and using a variety of technologies and developing budgets that are compliant with federal rules regarding funded service centers and be comfortable working with IT systems and programs. The Director needs to be a good communicator, comfortable with public speaking.
This full-time position works closely with faculty, students and research leaders from all seven Colleges (Medicine, Pharmacy, Allied Health, Nursing, Dentistry, Graduate College, and Public Health), including leadership for the University of Nebraska system. The Director regularly interacts with faculty and faculty leaders, members of the government affairs team, biomedical informatics resource leaders, IT, faculty, staff and vendors.
